San Francisco Highlights
San Francisco is known for many things and lends itself to several nicknames including ‘The Golden Gate City’, ‘The City of Fog’, and ‘The City by the Bay’. And with its welcoming locals and wonderful laid-back vibes, this is the city that has it all.
Superb Shopping
Whether you’re after some quirky one-off clothing items or some high-end designer gear, San Francisco has it all. Head to Union Square if you’re in the mood for a spending spree – or perhaps just some window shopping if you’ve understandably spent all your money on burritos. And for a splash of 60s nostalgia, take a trip to the colourful streets of Haight-Ashbury and purchase a pair of those flares you’ve always wanted!
Amazing Food Scene
San Francisco is a foodie’s paradise and known worldwide for its culinary creativity and delicious food innovations, which have been influenced by the cultures and flavours of the waves of immigrants settling in the city over the decades. Give your tastebuds a party and try classic dishes like Mission-style burritos, clam chowder and the delectable ‘cioppino’, a mouthwatering Italian-American fish stew that typically includes Dungeness crab, shrimp, mussels, scallops, squid and more.
Iconic Landmarks
San Francisco showcases its pride and progress through its many must-see historic landmarks. From wandering the former island prison of Alcatraz to cycling amongst the clouds along the Golden Gate Bridge and riding the old-charm cable cars that glide through the streets - your days in San Francisco will be equally unique and magical.
Great Beaches
It might not be the best place to swim on California’s Pacific Coast, but San Francisco’s beaches are beautiful, brisk, and built for walks, paddling, sunbathing, and soaking up casual city vibes during your downtime. Dotted around the Bay are swathes of pretty sands, hiking trails, historic ruins and secluded coves for breathing in that crisp ocean air – and with stunning Golden Gate Bridge views, there are few more enticing spots to spend your days.
Bahamas Highlights
The Bahamas are known for their picture-perfect beauty and impressive diversity, with an extraordinary tapestry of natural marvels waiting to be explored. San Francisco & Bahamas Holiday FAQs
San Francisco & Bahamas Holiday FAQs
San Francisco & Bahamas Holiday FAQs
When planning multi-centre holidays to San Francisco and the Bahamas, you’ll need to bear in mind the different seasons. Typically, late spring to early summer (particularly in May and June), is one of the best times to visit both destinations. San Francisco has pleasant springtime temperatures that hover between
12°C to 24°C, along with vibrant blooms and lush greenery. Meanwhile, in the Bahamas, you can enjoy tropical temperatures between 25°C to 30°C. June does, however, mark the start of the Caribbean's rainy season, so there may be occasional showers.
Alternatively, winter can also be an excellent time to explore both destinations. San Francisco's winter months are relatively cool, with temperatures between 8°C and 16°C, but you’ll benefit from festive charm and less tourists. In contrast, the Bahamas shine during the winter - it’s the peak of the dry season, so there’ll be plenty of sunshine and high temperatures between 25°C to 30°C to lap up.
If you’re thinking about visiting during autumn, you’ll find mild temperatures in San Francisco (somewhere between 12°C and 21°C), as well as the added benefit of lovely fall foliage across the city's parks. In the Bahamas, you’ll experience warm temperatures (from the mid-20s to low 30s), with an increase in humidity and occasional showers as it moves into the rainy season.
The ‘hurricane season’ in the Bahamas typically runs from early June to late November, so bear this in mind when planning San Francisco and Bahamas twin-centre holidays.
The peak of the rainy season usually falls between mid-August and late October - this is when the risk of tropical storms and hurricanes is at its highest. While it’s entirely possible to travel at this time, you should anticipate the possibility of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential disruptions to plans.
There’s still plenty of chances that you’ll enjoy lovely, sunny weather, but it’s a little more unpredictable at this time of year. If you’re after guaranteed sunshine, consider planning your trip in the dry season, which runs from December to April.
San Francisco is usually 8 hours behind the UK, but be aware that when the UK observes Daylight Saving Time, the time difference reduces by an hour. The Bahamas is typically 5 hours behind the UK, depending on the specific location within the Bahamas and whether Daylight Saving Time is in effect. When travelling from one to the other, note that the Bahamas is 3 hours ahead of San Francisco.
San Francisco and Bahamas multi-centre holidays will typically depart from major UK airports including London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW).
San Francisco twin-centres will head to San Francisco International Airport (SFO). This is the main airport for the San Francisco Bay Area and is well-connected to various domestic and international destinations.
For Bahamas twin-centres, your choice of airport will depend on your chosen destination within the archipelago. The Bahamas has several international airports, with Nassau's Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) being one of the major entry points. Additionally, airports in Freeport (FPO), Exuma (GGT), and several other islands accommodate international flights.
Start organising your dream trip as early as 36 months before you jet off to your twin centres - you can lock in a fixed price by making an initial low deposit, before gradually paying off the remaining balance in instalments.
The Bahamas really does have something for everybody, from the bustling city life in Nassau to tranquil getaways in the Exumas, Andros, Bimini, and the Abacos.
Nassau, the capital city, is a popular choice for many travellers. You can explore the charming colourful streets of downtown Nassau and visit historic sites like Fort Charlotte, as well as enjoying the vibrant Junkanoo culture. There are plenty of accommodation options to choose from too, ranging from luxury resorts to boutique hotels.
If you’re looking for a more secluded, romantic getaway, the Exumas - which is an archipelago of 365 cays and islands - is a great choice. With pristine white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and plenty of opportunities for snorkeling and swimming, it’s likely the postcard-worthy picture your mind conjures up when you think of the Bahamas.
Nature lovers will find plenty to do and see in Andros Island. It's the largest island in the Bahamas and has lush forests, blue holes, and abundant wildlife. It’s a great choice for eco-friendly travelers interested in exploring the unique flora and fauna of the region.
Or if you're an adventure seeker, the Abacos Islands could be perfect for you. With a whole host of watersports, (including sailing, kayaking, and kiteboarding), as well as vibrant colonial towns, it’s a fantastic spot for those looking to really get stuck into everything.
One of the most iconic times to see San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge is during the early morning hours, especially at sunrise (if you can face the early start!). The bridge is often shrouded in fog, giving it an ethereal quality as the first light of day breaks through the mist and creating a great photo opportunity. Early morning visits are great in late spring to early summer, when the weather is relatively clear.
If you want to see the bridge in all its glory without the fog, late morning to early afternoon is great for clearer skies, letting you appreciate the bridge's vivid orange colour against the stunning backdrop of the bay. Bear in mind that this is a popular time for tourists (especially during summer), so you may find larger crowds and more traffic.
Sunset is also a great time to get some great snaps, as the bridge becomes bathed in golden light, creating a dreamy, romantic atmosphere. September to October provide the best chance of great sunsets; the days are still long and the weather pleasant, yet there are less tourists roaming around.
San Francisco is a foodie’s paradise! It has a diverse culinary landscape that reflects its multicultural heritage. San Francisco's Chinatown is one of the oldest in North America and is a great place to indulge in some flavourful Chinese cuisine. Explore dim sum restaurants or venture into hole-in-the-wall spots for authentic dishes.
North Beach is known as San Francisco's ‘Little Italy’, thanks to its delicious traditional Italian pasta dishes and pizza. It’s a charming spot to enjoy evening meals, with plenty of cosy trattorias and charming restaurants offering al fresco seating.
Fisherman's Wharf is a popular tourist spot, famous for its fresh seafood. Try the clam chowder served in sourdough bread bowls, combining it with a visit during the day to explore the nearby attractions and enjoy the waterfront views.
The Mission District is another spot that’s known for its superb food, with everything from gourmet Mexican food to eco-conscious farm-to-table restaurants on the menu.
When it comes to exploring the Bahamas, there are plenty of awesome experiences to enjoy, depending on what you’re into.
Lots of tourists love swimming with the pigs in Big Major Cay in the Exumas. The famous pigs have become a unique symbol of the Bahamas and are accustomed to interacting with humans. Here, visitors can swim, feed, and take photos with the pigs - just be sure to choose an ethical tour provider and to give the animals space when they need it.
Snorkelling at Thunderball Grotto is an epic experience for water lovers, where you can dive into the underwater cave system (famously featured in James Bond movies) to explore the stunning coral formations and marine life.
Blue Lagoon Island is also great for a day trip - it’s just a short boat ride from Nassau, and is a fantastic spot for families with plenty of activities available.
Nature enthusiasts should head to Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, for hiking, birdwatching, and snorkelling in its protected marine reserve. It’s an incredible way to discover the untouched beauty of the Bahamas. Organised cruises can also be a great choice. They’re a wonderful way to experience the jaw-dropping beauty of the Bahamian waters - consider taking a sunset cruise for a truly breathtaking (and romantic) experience.
