Miami & Mexico FAQs
Miami & Mexico FAQs
Miami & Mexico FAQs
You’ll want to avoid hurricane season in Miami and wet season in Mexico, so plan your twin-centre holidays for winter or even early spring, when the prices are a little lower and you also escape the stifling summer humidity.
Temperatures between December and April rarely drop below 20°C in Miami, making it a great time to visit for sightseeing and hiking, while in Mexico temperatures still reach averages of 28°C even in the coldest months of January and February. During that time, there’s also little to no rainfall in both destinations, so you can leave the waterproofs behind!
Miami is generally 5 hours behind the UK and observes Eastern Standard Time (EST). However, if you’re travelling in March or November, look out for when their time zones change to Eastern Day Light Saving Time, as US clocks go forward or backward an hour on different Sundays than in the UK.
In Mexico, there are four different time zones, reflecting those in the US. Central and most eastern parts of the country, including Mexico City and most of Chihuahua, observe Central Standard Time (Zona Centro), 7 hours behind GMT in the UK. Most of western Mexico, including Baja California Sur, use Mountain Standard Time (Zona Pacifico), 8 hours behind GMT. Two smaller time zones in the country’s far east and far west are also observed; Baja California, which borders California and the Pacific Ocean, observes Pacific Standard Time (Zona Noroeste) – also 8 hours behind GMT – while Quintana Roo, Mexico’s easternmost state, observes Eastern Standard Time, 5 hours behind GMT.
Unlike the UK and US, Mexico has abolished Daylight Saving Time (DST) in most of the country; however, most municipalities near the country’s northern border follow the DST schedule of the US, so check before you travel or speak to one of our experts for advice.
The primary airport for UK tourists is Miami International Airport (MIA), with non-stop flights from London Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW). In Mexico, major airports that you can fly to directly from the UK include Mexico City (MEX) in south-central Mexico, Cancun (CUN) in south-eastern Mexico, and Puerto Vallarta (PVR) in west-central Mexico; departure airports in the UK include London Gatwick (LGW), Birmingham (BHX), Newcastle (NCL), Glasgow (GLA), Belfast (BFS), and many more.
If you need flight advice for your Miami and Mexico multi-centre holidays, our team of USA experts are happy to help.
Pretty far! We are proud to offer guaranteed prices up to 36 months ahead of your twin-centre holiday. This means you can secure your perfect package with an initial low deposit and pay the remainder of your holiday in monthly instalments.
You can fly directly to four Mexican airports from Miami International, continuing your multi-centre holiday in Miami and Mexico with ease. Flights to Cancun are shortest, taking around 1 hour 45 minutes, with Monterrey taking the longest at 3 hours 45 minutes. You can also fly directly to Mexico City (3 hours 20 minutes) and Merida (2 hours 10 minutes).
Not sure where is best to fly into? Speak to our friendly team, who have first-hand experience and are always happy to assist.
If there’s one thing Miami’s known for, it’s the city’s beaches; no matter what your vibe, you’ll find the perfect spot to relax, party, or play. Families should head to Millionaires Row, North Beach, or Normandy Isles for a calmer atmosphere and plenty of fun beach activities. Looking for somewhere a little livelier? Try South Beach, where the powder-soft sands are surrounded by stunning Art Deco architecture housing some of the city’s best bars and restaurants. And, of course, no Miami visit is complete without a day at the famous Miami Beach.
Why not visit them all and stay put in Miami for your twin-centre holiday? You can view all our Miami twin-centre holidays here.
There’s a reason Mexico is ultimately known as a beach destination, with 5,800 miles of stunning coastline stretching along the Gulf of Mexico to the east and the wild surf of the Pacific Ocean to the west.
Cabo San Lucas is popular with tourists, and for good reason, with some of the best beaches in Mexico. Rent a 4x4 to reach the remote Playas La Palmas or grab a board and head to the surfer’s paradise of Playa Acapulquito. Isla Mujeres, meanwhile, makes a great day trip from Cancun; visit the main beach of Playa Norte with its warm, shallow waters – you may even spot a whale shark, with the island home to the largest concentration on the planet!
For more wildlife spotting, head to Isla Holbox – separated from the tip of Yucatan Peninsula by a shallow lagoon. Here, you’ll discover calm, quiet beaches away from the crowds of Cancun and Playa del Carmen; our top pick is Playa Punta Cocos, known for its beautiful sunsets and prime bird-watching and fishing opportunities. Keep an eye out for the area’s famous flamingos, too!
From water parks and pools to museums and more, you’ll never run out of family-friendly fun in Miami. On hot days, there’s no better place to relax than Coral Gables’ Venetian pool – known for being one of the most beautiful swimming pools in the world. Surrounded by Italian architecture and tropical foliage, you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’re in the Mediterranean. Kids will love the shallow waters and the treats from the on-site café, while parents will enjoy the clean showers, lockers, and safe environment.
Another place to visit with the kids is Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, where you can climb to the top of the 65-foot-tall lighthouse, explore the native wildlife, or enjoy kayaking and cycling. If you’re unlucky enough to be caught in the rain, the Miami Children’s Museum is well worth a visit.
Mexico is an easy place to travel with kids, making it the perfect setting for a family trip. Many attractions across the country offer discounted admission and tour fees for children, from museums and parks to theatres and restaurants, while many also boast special kid-friendly activities.
The beachfront destinations of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and the rest of the Riviera Maya are popular choices for families, drawn by the safe beaches and family-orientated culture. But venture a little further afield and discover the lesser-known (and more wallet-friendly!) destinations of Guanajuato, Oaxaca, or Baja California.
With so many destinations to discover, you’d be forgiven for just wanting to visit Mexico. If that’s the case, you can view all our Mexico twin-centre holidays here.
Cabo may have a bit of a Spring Breaker reputation, but the resort has morphed into one of Mexico’s best luxury destinations, with a whole host of romantic things to see and do with the one you love. From sunset cruises to pit stops at Lovers Beach, there’s ample opportunity to celebrate a special occasion (or even pop the question!).
Another option is the picturesque Riviera Nayarit, with its 200-mile stretch of beaches and jungles. The area exudes a laid-back vibe, with charming fishing towns and surfers’ gems popping up here and there. But for ultimate luxury, head to Punta Mita for golf courses and relaxing spas. The area is also home to popular hiking hotspots (we recommend Monkey Mountain) and coastal paths through the jungles.
