Miami & Jamaica FAQs
Miami & Jamaica FAQs
Miami & Jamaica FAQs
To avoid both destinations’ rainy seasons, avoid the summer months, when hurricanes hit and downpours are a daily occurrence. Instead, plan your Miami and Jamaica twin-centre holidays for the winter months to capture the best of both destinations.
Miami’s winter temperatures sit at a comfortable 23°C-24°C, making it the perfect weather for exploring all the city has to offer while still being warm enough for a beach day. It’s a popular season in the Magic City though, so be sure to plan your visit well in advance for the best prices and availability.
Jamaica, meanwhile, is a toasty 30°C-31°C between December and February, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to work on your tan if that’s what you’re hoping for!
Miami and Jamaica are generally 5 hours behind the UK, both observing Eastern Standard Time (EST).
However, if you’re travelling in March or November, look out for when their time zones change to Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), as US clocks go forward or backward an hour on different Sundays than in the UK. When planning your trip between the destinations, note that Miami is 1 hour ahead of Jamaica.
If your first stop is Miami, you can fly directly into Miami International Airport (MIA) from either London Heathrow (LHR) or London Gatwick (LGW), or take a one-stop flight from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, or Bristol.
For Jamaica, fly into Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, with direct flights from Heathrow and Gatwick and one-stop flights from Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh. You can also fly into the island’s capital, Kingston (KIN), with direct flights from Gatwick and one-stop flights from Manchester, Edinburgh, and London Heathrow.
If you need flight advice for your multi-centre holiday to Miami and Jamaica, just ask our friendly team of experts.
We are proud to offer guaranteed prices up to 36 months ahead of your twin-centre holiday. You can secure your perfect package with an initial low deposit today and pay the remainder of your holiday in monthly instalments.
Whatever time of year you’re visiting, packing t-shirts and shorts is a good idea for your trip to both Miami and Jamaica, with each boasting year-round warm temperatures. If you’re planning your visit for the winter months, though, don’t forget a light jacket, jumper, and trousers for the cooler Miami nights, where temperatures can drop to a cooler 17°C in Miami.
Of course, if you’re visiting during the rainy season of June to November, don’t forget to pack your waterproofs!
One of the things Miami is known best for is its miles of stunning golden-sand beaches. In fact, there are more than 15 incredible beach spots to explore during your visit. From the vibrant and lively South Beach (known locally as SoBe) — where the beach is backdropped by Art Deco architecture and swaying palm trees — to the family-friendly Virginia Key Beach Park, with its land train and antique carousel, you’re sure to find the perfect one to suit your mood.
We also recommend Crandon Park Beach on Key Biscayne, where you’ll find 2 miles of stunning shoreline that are perfect for relaxing, as well as fun park activities for those wanting a more activity-packed beach day; choose from volleyball, tennis, and biking. Or head to Hobie Beach, known as Windsurfer Beach thanks to its prime windsurfing opportunities.
With so many incredible beaches to explore, as well as everything else Miami has to offer, why not plan a break solely in Miami? View all our Miami twin-centre holidays here.
Jamaica is known for its warm climate, ultra-friendly locals, and in particular, its stunning beaches, so it can be difficult to choose which spots to visit during your stay on the island. So we’ve rounded up a few of our favourites:
First, head to Seven Mile Beach — Jamaica’s longest stretch of white sands and possibly its most beautiful, too. The picturesque setting is nestled beside some of Negril’s most exclusive luxury resorts and is packed with things to do, from savouring the famous Jamaican jerk chicken from your beach chair to diving into watersports.
Another great beach in the Negril area is Bloody Bay, which despite its name and history, is today a popular spot with tourists, offering sunset cruises, snorkelling trips, and shallow waters for the kids to paddle in.
Head to the island’s south coast and visit Treasure Beach, which boasts 6 miles of coral-coloured beaches and private coves, or journey to the other side of the island to Frenchman’s Cove — regarded by some as one of the most beautiful places on earth; the latter even featured in the 1986 Robin Williams film, Club Paradise, and was formerly a spot popular with Hollywood A-listers.
Can’t decide? Why not stay a little longer and explore them all with a Jamaica twin-centre holiday?
Seafood lovers will be in their element with a multi-centre holiday to Miami and Jamaica, with plenty of fish on the menu. In Miami, you’ll be savouring stone crab and fresh ceviche, while in Jamaica you have to try the island’s national dish, ackee and saltfish.
Miami is also known for its Cuban cuisine, so no visit is complete without trying one of the city’s famous Cuban sandwiches, made with ham, roasted pork, swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on Cuban bread.
Other famous dishes in Jamaica include goat curry, jerk chicken, and Jamaican patty.
Jamaica’s official language is English, so you’ll have no issues communicating with the locals during your visit. The majority of Jamaicans also speak Patois, an English-based creole.
A hub of creativity and culture, you’ll never be short of things to do in Miami. Head to the outdoor street art park of Wynwood Walls, where nearly 50 stunning murals from some of the world’s most acclaimed artists are featured, with the displays changing each year. Continue the al fresco adventure at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, where you can explore the huge estate and manicured gardens on the Coconut Grove waterfront; yoga lovers can also enjoy outdoor yoga classes here.
Head to the Coral Gables neighbourhood and dive into the city’s stunning Venetian Pool, with waterfalls, a grotto, and plenty of room to swim and splash; it’s the perfect way to cool off from the Miami heat.
While in Miami, you’re also close to the incredible Everglades National Park, where you can embark on a tour or rent kayaks and canoes to explore yourselves.
Lovers of reggae will love the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, where you’ll have the chance to explore the singer’s family history at his former home. You can even witness the process of vinyl recording — perfect for music fans. Or, if you’d rather spend more time on the beach, hop on horseback for a trot along the sand and a swim in the sea.
Nature enthusiasts will love the Black River safari, where you can see wild crocodiles congregating in the wetlands and ospreys soaring overhead. You can also set sail on a 30ft bamboo raft down the Marta Brae River and soak in the incredible scenery, meet the local wildlife as you go, including the hummingbirds that flutter between the mangroves.
