Fort Myers Highlights
Fort Myers enjoys access to some of the best shoreline along Florida’s southwestern coast, including the picturesque barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva, and of course the ever-popular Fort Myers Beach. A rich culture infused with the arts, culinary style and warm southern hospitality makes Fort Myers a must-visit Gulf Coast destination.
Vibrant Culture
Fort Myers embodies a compelling history dating back to when Native Americans first inhabited Florida’s southwest coast. More recently, the city was home to famous residents Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, while nowadays there are theatres, art and music walks and galleries to immerse yourselves in to see the delights this area has to offer.
Stunning Beaches
Award-winning beaches hug the Gulf of Mexico coastline and barrier islands in the Fort Myers area, and their stunning natural beauty is what brings flocks of visitors – as well as kaleidoscopic marine life – to this part of Florida every year. Its white sands, gently rolling surf and out-of-this-world sunsets will make you think you’ve stepped right into a postcard!
Beautiful Nature
Winding coastal waterways, free-flowing rivers, and expansive state parks make up much of the surrounding Fort Myers area along the Gulf Coast. There are hundreds of opportunities to explore, whether it’s swimming and diving, hopping in a kayak or canoe, or good old-fashioned walking – be one with nature any way you choose.
Delicious Food
Fort Myers enjoys a mix of southern-style cuisine and mouth-watering seafood in its cafés and restaurants. Whether you dine casually by the ocean or book a table in one of the city’s fine dining establishments, you’ll be satisfied beyond measure with the flavours, fusions and flair that this extraordinary region offers.

Miami & Fort Myers FAQs
Miami & Fort Myers FAQs
Miami & Fort Myers FAQs
We recommend avoiding the stifling heat of summer, when hurricane season also hits, as well as the winter high season; instead, plan your Miami and Fort Myers twin-centre holidays for spring or autumn.
In spring, temperatures peak around 27°C in April in Miami and 28°C in Fort Myers, so you can still enjoy plenty of beach bathing and sight-seeing during your trip. Autumn is similar, with both destinations hovering around the 26°C mark in November.
Whatever time of year you visit, both cities have plenty of events to keep you entertained, from the South Beach Wine & Food Festival in February and Fort Myers Film Fest in May, to the Fort Myers Boat Show in November and Art Basel Miami Beach (North America’s largest contemporary art fair) in December.
Both Miami and Fort Myers are generally 5 hours behind the UK, observing Eastern Standard Time (EST). If you’re travelling in March or November, look out for when the time zone changes to Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), as US clocks go forward or backward an hour on different Sundays than in the UK.
If you’re starting your adventure in Miami, fly from either London Heathrow (LHR) or London Gatwick (LGW) for direct flights to Miami International Airport (MIA). Or head straight for Fort Myers, where the closest airport is Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW); note that there are currently no direct UK flights to RSW, but you can make a connecting flight at another US airport. For a direct flight, head to Tampa (TPA), which is a 2 hour drive from Fort Myers.
Once you’re in the USA, Miami and Fort Myers are just a 2-and-a-half-hour drive apart – perfect for your Miami and Fort Myers twin-centre holiday.
We are proud to offer guaranteed prices up to 36 months ahead of your multi-centre itinerary. You can secure your perfect package with an initial low deposit today and pay the remainder of your holiday in monthly instalments.
With a year-round temperate climate, you’d be forgiven for just picturing yourself in shorts and t-shirts for your Florida getaway. But depending on the time of year you visit, you may want to pack some waterproofs or a light jacket, too; Florida’s rainy season runs from May to October, and winter evening temperatures can drop to 16°C.
Whatever your vibe, you’ll find your perfect beach location in Miami, with over 15 popular sandy spots to discover. We’ve outlined a few of our favourites below.
First, no Miami visit is complete without a day at South Beach (known locally as SoBe). As well as miles of soft sands and plenty of water sports opportunities, you’ll find an array of lively bars and restaurants, as well as the neighbourhood’s iconic Art Deco architecture.
For something a little quieter, head to North Beach, which is the quietest of Miami Beach’s three main beaches. Laze on the sand topping up your tan, build sandcastles, or enjoy a spot of kayaking.
Families will also love Millionaires Row, Normandy Isles, and the famous Miami Beach, where you’ll find calm waters and fun beach activities aplenty.
With so many to choose from, you’d be forgiven for wanting to stay in Miami for the whole trip. Find your dream Miami multi-centre itinerary here.
The Southwest Florida coastline is known for its shallow waters and sandy shores, making it perfect for a beach break. Between Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach, there are plenty of pristine shorelines to choose from; here are a few of our favourites.
Hire a kayak or SUP at Bunche Beach, located on San Carlos Bay. The nature reserve is a living ecosystem, where the sandy beach meets Mangrove forests and salt flats, making it an incredible spot for wildlife lovers, too; stay and watch the sunset here for a moment you’ll never forget.
Newton Park on Fort Myers Beach is also a great choice, particularly for history lovers and families with kids. The historic beach is the former beachfront home of Jim and Ellie Newton – friends of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.
Finally, head to Lovers Key State Park, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the Gulf of Mexico waters, toss a football on the sand, or spot the herons, osprey, and gopher tortoises. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a manatee in the shallows!
Can’t decide which beach you’d like to visit? Stay in Fort Myers a little longer; discover your perfect Fort Myers multi-centre itinerary here.
In a word: yes! The stunning Everglades National Park is within easy reach of both Miami and Fort Myers, and is a must-visit during your Miami and Fort Myers multi-centre holidays. The park is one of the world’s “most beautiful natural assets”, with 1.5 million acres to discover.
Everglades National Park has several separate entrances, so which you use entirely depends whether you’re visiting from Miami or Fort Myers; from Miami, you can access at the Shark Valley Visitor Center (40 miles west of Downtown Miami) or the park’s main entrance at Florida City (50 miles South of Downtown Miami). From Fort Myers, access from the Gulf Coast entrance (80 miles Southeast of Fort Myers).
With an abundance of things to do at the park, you’ll easily spend a whole day at the Everglades. Take a tram tour, go canoeing, or even attend a science course to learn more about the park’s environment and nature.
Experience the fun and magic of Walt Disney World during your twin-centre adventure, with a day trip from Fort Myers. The drive is around 145 miles (approximately 2 hours 45), but it’s well-worth the trek to meet Mickey, Minnie, and all your other favourite characters. If you don’t fancy hiring a car and driving yourself, you can hop on a Greyhound bus, but these tend to take a lot longer, so we recommend stocking up on snacks, lining up the tunes, and hitting the open road!
With its designer enclaves, incredible malls, and indie boutiques, Greater Miami is a haven for keen shoppers, with stores to suit every budget. Here are a few of our favourite Miami shopping destinations…
For open-air shopping, head to Bal Harbour Shops, anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus and home to designer brands from Prada to Chanel – or visit SoBe’s famous Lincoln Road, where you can enjoy shopping, people-watching, and a delicious lunch at an outdoor café.
Miami Design District boasts high-end boutiques too, including Cartier and Hermes, while the area’s iconic malls offer all your favourite high-street retailers. Our top pick? Head to Aventura Mall, Florida’s largest, which has more than 300 retailers.
Whether your budget is more designer brands or wallet-friendly prices, Fort Myers is the perfect shopping destination, with a huge range of malls, shopping centres, and outlets to choose from. Head to Coconut Point Mall for upscale shopping, with more than 140 specialty stores including Apple and West Elm. Sanibel Island and the beaches, meanwhile, have lots of places to shop for souvenirs for your loved ones back home, as well as high-end art and clothing.
But the real crown in Fort Myers’ shopping gem is Miromar Outlets, just outside the city. This award-winning, open-air Mediterranean-style outlet mall is home to over 160 designer and brand-name stores, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Michael Kors to H&M. There’s also an expansive lakefront dining piazza, so you can stop and fuel the spree!
