Los Angeles & Mexico Holiday FAQs
Los Angeles & Mexico Holiday FAQs
Los Angeles & Mexico Holiday FAQs
The best time to visit Los Angeles is typically in the spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). The weather will still be warm enough to explore wearing just light layers, and you’ll bypass the annual tourism influx that the summer months are known for.
There’s no clear cut answer for Mexico, as it can vary depending on the region. The winter months (December to April) are generally a good time to visit most parts of the country, with minimal rainy days on the forecast and mild temperatures. However, if you prefer fewer crowds and lower prices, you ought to consider travelling during the shoulder seasons (the time between off-peak and high season), such as late spring (April to May) and early fall (September to October).
If your Los Angeles and Mexico multi-centre itinerary is dependent on a forecast for hot, sunny days, then you’ll definitely want to plan your getaway to coincide with the peak summer months.
Temperatures reach annual highs in Los Angeles in July and August, with an average of 29°C throughout the daytime. Surprisingly, the highest summer temperatures are usually recorded in the coastal areas of Mexico. May to September is usually the hottest period, with temperatures soaring to around 35°C - this is most common in regions like Cancun and the Yucatán Peninsula.
The time difference between Los Angeles and Mexico varies depending on where you are, because Mexico spans multiple time zones. To give you an understanding, we’ve shared some examples of the time differences for a selection of popular Mexican cities and regions when compared to Los Angeles, which is in the Pacific Time Zone (PT).
Mexico City is typically in the Central Time Zone (CT), which is 2 hours ahead of Los Angeles during Standard Time. However, Mexico City, like Los Angeles, may also observe Daylight Saving Time, so the time difference can change to 1 hour during the DST period.
The Eastern part of Mexico, including Cancun and the Riviera Maya, is in the Eastern Time Zone (ET), which is 3 hours ahead of Los Angeles during Standard Time. Similarly, the time difference may become 2 hours during Daylight Saving Time.
The Baja California region in Mexico, including cities like Tijuana and Ensenada, is in the same Pacific Time Zone (PT) as Los Angeles - so there is no time difference between Los Angeles and these areas.
Not all regions in Mexico observe Daylight Saving Time (i.e Sonora) so this can also affect the time difference. Our top tip to avoid any mishaps for your travel plans would be to check the time in the destination you’re travelling to, in advance - our team will be able to assist, should you require any further help!
When you book your LA and Mexico multi-centre holiday with us, the cost of your break can be guaranteed for up to 36 months before you’re due to fly. Upon planning your departure, you should consider whether you’d like a direct flight or a connecting route, as not all UK airports offer the former. For direct-only routes, you can fly from Glasgow, Manchester, London Heathrow, and London Gatwick. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the main airport for International departures and arrivals, so you’ll arrive and depart for your multi centre break from here.
For Mexico, the airports you choose will depend on your exact destination and the connection you’ve got for your onward journey (if applicable). Mexico City International Airport (MEX) is a major hub, and other popular airports include Cancun International Airport (CUN) and Los Cabos International Airport (SJD).
Yes - LA is a go-to destination for many families touring the Pacific West Coast. The city has lots of things to do, catering to kids of all ages, so whether you’re entertaining toddlers or teenagers, you’re certain to find something to keep everyone happy.
Keep the pace high on our family-friendly Los Angeles multi-centre holidays by exploring some of the theme parks that LA is home to - from Disney World Resort to Universal Studios and Six Flags Magic Mountain, each park has rides that’ll put your bravery to the test. Alternatively, plan a trip to Los Angeles Zoo, where kids can encounter some fierce members of the animal kingdom first hand. Marvel at marine life by spending an afternoon at the Los Angeles Aquarium, and make a pitstop for a snack at one of the city’s many kid-friendly restaurants.
Give kids a whole different type of adventure by making the most of the great outdoors - LA has many hiking trails, where you can take on the terrain by foot or on horseback. You’ll see a whole new side of the city, away from the bright lights of the bustling centre. On days where you just want to lounge around and soak up the sun, pick a prime spot on one of the city's stunning beaches - you’ve got Santa Monica Beach, Venice Beach, and Malibu Beach to choose from.
Mexico is a family-friendly destination. You will find an abundance of dazzling, family-oriented resorts, often located within easy reach of the beach. All-inclusive hotels are relatively easy to find here too, so if you’re dealing with picky eaters this could be the touch of convenience that you need for your Mexico multi-centre holiday. When it comes to keeping little ones entertained, you’ll be spoilt for choice - many resort hotels run their own kids’ clubs and creche offerings, but as a family, you can venture out and enjoy everything from watersports, to theme parks, as well as taking an immersive, historical tour of this idyllic paradise.
We couldn’t explore this vibrant destination in depth without showcasing the fact that it has an incredible nightlife scene. Some of the most popular places for revellers include Mexico City, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Puerto Vallarta. These areas come to life after sunset, and you’ll find plenty of bars, clubs, live music, and entertainment options dotted around the resort centre.
Want to try something a bit more exciting than fajitas on the Mexico leg of the trip? There’s much more to traditional Mexican cuisine, so prepare for some sensational new tastes - tuck into authentic tacos and enchiladas, or be tempted by tamales, pozole, or chiles rellenos. If you can’t stand the heat, you’re in the home of crisp, cool, guacamole, so load up and savour these delights without the spice! Each region in Mexico also has its unique specialties, and these are unmissable. Don't forget to try street food like elote (corn on the cob) and churros, too!
Our Los Angeles and Mexico twin-centre holidays offer the perfect balance between an exciting city break and a beach escape, so pack accordingly! If you’re visiting any of LA’s theme parks, then a poncho might come in handy, as some of the rides might give you an unexpected soaking! Otherwise, make sure you’ve got a rotation of comfy shorts, t-shirts, and a sturdy pair of shoes for sightseeing. Your Mexico wardrobe is likely going to be nothing but swimwear, so pack plenty of options. Evening attire can be kept fairly casual, unless you’ll be stepping out to explore the bars and clubs after dark!
