Los Angeles & Jamaica Multi-Centre Holidays FAQs
Los Angeles & Jamaica Multi-Centre Holidays FAQs
Los Angeles & Jamaica Multi-Centre Holidays FAQs
The best way of breaking down your plans is to factor in the seasons. Spring in LA is great. There are generally fewer people than in the summer months and you can enjoy the blooming flowers and lush Californian landscapes. It's also an ideal time for outdoor activities such as hitting the hiking trails and driving along the coast. Autumn brings with it Halloween decorations and the smell of pumpkin spice, and it will definitely feel cooler than in the summertime.
However, it’s a destination that can be visited all year, as long as you plan accordingly. December to mid-April is the peak tourist season in Jamaica, this is when the weather is warm and dry, making it an excellent time to visit. June to November is hurricane season, so it’s best to avoid this period unless you particularly enjoy rain and thunder!
The time difference between Jamaica and Los Angeles can change due to Daylight Saving Time. In general, when neither location observes DST (usually in the winter months), Jamaica is ahead of Los Angeles by 3 hours. When DST is in effect in Los Angeles but not in Jamaica, the time difference narrows to 2 hours because Los Angeles moves an hour ahead. If both locations, however, are observing DST simultaneously, the time difference still remains at 3 hours.
LAX is your best bet for Los Angeles. It’s the main International airport that gets you exactly where you need to go. Norman Manley International Airport is located in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica. It serves the Southeastern part of the island, including Kingston and its surrounding areas. Sangster International Airport, located in Montego Bay, serves those visiting the northern and western regions of Jamaica, which are popular for their gorgeous resorts and beaches.
One of the most visited places in Los Angeles is definitely Universal Studios Hollywood theme park. You can experience your favourite movie-themed rollercoasters, watch live shows, and take pictures on some of the most famous film sets. Jurassic Park, Jaws and Back to the Future are some of the many iconic displays you can explore. The park boasts millions of visitors each year - so make sure you’re one of them!
Your Los Angeles twin-centre holidays would not be complete without it.
Seven Mile Beach in Negril, Doctor's Cave Beach in Montego Bay, and Frenchman's Cove Beach in Port Antonio are some of the most well-known stretches of sand on the island. All stunningly beautiful, they’ll make you think you’re in a movie. The warm Caribbean waters are perfect for watersports so you can snorkel, windsurf and kiteboard to your heart’s content. While a visit to the Luminous Lagoon in Falmouth will be an unforgettable one - the water glows in the dark due to the presence of microorganisms!
Make like Pretty Woman and opt for a stay in Beverly Hills. Rodeo Drive is world-renowned for its high-end luxury shopping and fine dining. West Hollywood has a super dynamic nightlife, offers lots of entertainment, and a vibrant LGBTQ+ scene. It's a great choice if you want to be in the heart of all the action.
Or, if you want to explore some of the city's cultural attractions, museums, and historic sites, then Downtown LA is a good option.
Montego Bay is one of Jamaica's main tourist hubs and is conveniently located in close proximity to popular attractions like Dunn's River Falls and the Rose Hall Great House. Negril is a more relaxed and laid-back destination, perfect if you enjoy peace and quiet. Jamaica's capital, Kingston, is the cultural and economic heart of the island, where you can learn about the history, music, and culture of this fascinating nation. It’s also home to the Bob Marley Museum and the National Gallery of Jamaica, worth visiting.
An art museum located on a hilltop, the Getty Center, is renowned for its impressive art collection, mesmerising architecture, and gorgeous gardens. A Los Angeles twin-centre holiday would not be complete without a visit to the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. This iconic sidewalk features stars embedded with the names of famous celebrities from the entertainment industry, such as Marilyn Monroe, Michelle Pfeiffer and Queen. The Hollywood sign is the major tourist draw though; this symbol of Los Angeles is visible from many parts of the city, so be sure to get as many selfies with it as possible.
One of the most iconic and highly-regarded places to visit in Jamaica is Dunn's River Falls. It’s a striking waterfall located near Ocho Rios in the northern part of the island. It's known for its terraced rock formations that allow visitors to climb the 180m falls from the bottom to the top. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience and simply must be part of your Jamaica twin-centre holidays.
Foodies, be sure to pack your stretchy pants! Los Angeles has a significant Korean population, and Koreatown, or K-Town, has a plethora of Korean barbecue restaurants, where you can grill your own meat at the table. The city is also known for its creative and high-quality sushi restaurants, first introducing the concept of the California roll, which is now savoured all over the world.
With so many famous inhabitants, Los Angeles is often associated with health-conscious cuisine and various food trends. There’s definitely a focus on fresh, locally sourced, and organic ingredients, so you'll find plenty of juice bars, salad shops, and vegan or vegetarian restaurants.
Perhaps the most famous dish is the jerk chicken. It’s marinated in a spicy and flavourful blend of seasonings, including hot scotch bonnet peppers, thyme and allspice, then grilled or smoked. The national dish of Jamaica is achee and saltfish and is traditionally served with rice and peas or fried plantains. Curry-flavored goat meat is another mouthwatering option that the island whips up very well.
Feeling thirsty? Jamaica is also responsible for one of the world's most renowned coffee varieties, grown in the Blue Mountains, known for its mild flavour and lack of bitterness. And we can’t fail to mention the destination’s world-famous rum cocktails, can we?! It’s safe to say your trip to Jamaica is sure to serve up some delicious dishes.
This world-renowned outdoor amphitheatre is located in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. With the Hollywood sign standing proud in the background, the setting is truly picturesque, adding to the overall magic of the venue. This historic haunt hosts a wide variety of performances, including classical concerts, symphony orchestras, jazz rock and pop gigs as well as special events. Attending a performance at the Hollywood Bowl is not only about the music though, it's about the whole experience. The striking setting, the sense of community, and the opportunity to enjoy a lovely picnic before or during the show are all massive draws. This remains a must-visit location for both locals and tourists alike, so if there’s a performance during your visit, it’s well worth booking.
This fascinating museum is housed in the actual home where Bob Marley lived and recorded his music. The house itself has been preserved to maintain its original character so you can see how this legendary artist lived and explore various rooms, including the bedroom where Bob Marley slept and composed many of his unforgettable songs. Wander between the four walls and admire bespoke memorabilia, visit Marley’s Mausoleum and indulge in some refreshments at the Legend’s Cafe. The venue also hosts occasional events, with members from the artist’s family and various celebrities performing. Oh, and don't forget to stock up at the on-site gift shop.
