What’s New in Florida in 2027

There’s something huge coming to Universal for 2025. The Epic Universe isn’t just a new land or ride, it’s a whole new park. We’re talking new rides, attractions, shops, eateries, hotels… you name it, it’ll be there. 

And it’s epic in name, epic in nature – with five new lands in total. We’re getting new details all the time, but we know the lands will be Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – the Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. And we know some of the features in each land. Family-friendly coasters and shows, as well as Viking-themed food joints in How to Train Your Dragon. Monsters roaming around Dark Universe. And a dual-launch coaster in Celestial Park. But Universal is remaining as tight lipped about the new rides as a Gringotts goblin at the Ministry of Magic.

The new park will also see three new hotels. Universal Helios Grand Hotel is the big-hitter. It’ll sit inside the park itself, with its own entrance into Epic Universe. Meanwhile, the other two more budget-friendly offerings are Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort, both set to open in early 2025. There’ll be the usual Universal hotel perks – think free shuttles to the theme parks and early admission.

And if that wasn’t enough to get you excited for a 2027 Florida holiday, let’s take a look at Disney’s plans. Disney has teased replacing It’s Tough to Be a Bug at Animal Kingdom with a Zootopia ride and Dinoland with Tropic Americas. There’s no timeline yet, but it is early, so they could easily be announced and in the works before 2027.

Introducing an Official Disney Partner Hotel. It doesn’t come with the usual wild themes, but it does still have amazing perks, including complimentary hot breakfast, hot dinnertime snacks and drinks, free parking for Ocean Florida guests, and transport to all four Disney World parks whilst having no resort fees. Better yet, it’s just half a mile away from Disney Springs.

An iconic city stay – Fontainebleau Miami beach

If you’re looking for a luxurious place to stay in Miami, it’s here. The Fontainebleau has played host to Elvis and Mariah Carey since it opened its doors in 1954. It’s had a $1 billion revamp since, so you can expect lavishness from top-to-toe.

A true beach babe – Sheraton Sand Key Resort

Locations don’t get better, or beachier, than this. The Sheraton Sand Key Resort has taken up residence on Clearwater’s bright-white sands – which are regularly named among the best in the world.

A glam golf resort – Champions Gate

Families with little ones in tow will love the facilities here. The resort’s got two pools, a lazy river, a waterslide and a kids’ splash zone. There are cycling trails, as well as tennis and volleyball courts, a cinema room and a kids’ club. It’s only a 25-minute drive to Orlando’s theme parks, too.

Relaxing in Kissimmee – Windsor Palms

There’s a real go-slow vibe at this gated complex. After a busy day at the parks, you can relax in the pool or hot tub, or head to the cinema room. A tiki bar adds to the tropical atmosphere, too. Getting to Disney couldn’t be easier – it’s less than 15 minutes’ drive and they put on a shuttle bus.

Hilltop views aplenty – Highlands Reserve

This scenic resort combines countryside views with a close-to-Disney postcode. All the villas come with their own private pools, and some even line up games rooms. And Disney’s delights are just under 20 minutes’ drive away.

Great for big groups – Solterra

Solterra’s set up for big families and groups of friends. They offer homes with up to 14 bedrooms. And some of them have themed kids’ rooms – think Star Wars and Mickey Mouse. They all come with their own pools, too. Walt Disney World is a 20-minute drive from here.

Ultimate amenities – Reunion Resort

The facilities are endless at this villa resort. Seven pools, a five-acre waterpark, mini-golf, three golf courses and a golf academy – and that’s just the activities. You’ve also got seven restaurants and bars, ranging from fine dining to sushi. Orlando’s theme parks are just a few miles up the road, too.

Just a reminder that Disney updated its rules for 2024. From January 2024, you no longer have to reserve your Disney visit in advance if you’ve got date-based tickets.

Should I rent a car in Florida for 2027?

This depends on where you’re staying and what you want to do. Some villa resorts and hotels provide shuttle buses to the theme parks. If you’re staying at an on-site Universal or Disney hotel, there’s always a free shuttle bus as standard.

However, consider whether you want to head further afield than Orlando. If you’ve got your heart set on exploring multiple destinations, like the Florida Keys, then car hire is a great option. Florida’s Amtrak rail service or Brightline trains can get you around, but it doesn’t give you the flexibility of your own car.
