Motown 
Detroit's music scene changed America, starting in 1959 when a recording studio combining pop and soul was opened and Motown was born. Uniting people from all walks of life, the music is credited with helping to bring about integration. Over the years, Motown produced some of the top artists of all time including Diana Toss, The Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder. Today this recording studios has been turned into a museum.  

Close to Canada 
It’s a quick, easy drive into Canada from Detroit, through either the tunnel or Windsor Bridge. These crossing points made Detroit a good place to start a trip into Canada for either a day or a longer stop. 

Greek town 
Seen as a symbol for multicultural Detroit is Greek town. Many businesses were established in the early 1900’s when a wave of Greek immigrants began to move in. From then, an annual Greek festival started in 1966 as a testament to the survival of their historic neighbourhood.  

Art Scene 
Detroiters have taken an opportunity to show off their creativity and transform public spaces into works of art throughout the city. Many areas boast outdoor sculpture, street murals and the Detroit institute of arts museum. The best-known art project in Detroit is the Heidelberg Project, which started when a military veteran returned home to find his street in decay. As an act of protest he painted some houses in the street with bright colours and over the years many other houses turned into elaborate works of art.  

Food 
A large Middle Eastern community with a vibrant culinary scene and eateries are dotted around Detroit. Or maybe Mexican food is more to your taste? Then head to Detroit’s Mexicantown for authentic cuisine. Enjoy Detroit's Eastern Market which serves an estimated 45,00 people every Saturday with fresh produce, seafood and specialty foods.
