The Everglades is teeming with crocodiles, alligators, manatees, and birds, so get your camera at the ready for those enviable shots.
Wild Florida Airboats & Gator Park
Just 45 minutes from Orlando’s major theme parks you can discover Wild Florida Airboats & Gator Park. Explore pristine marshland on a U.S. Coast Guard-certified airboat while keeping your eyes peeled for eagles, turkeys, wild boar, and of course, the star of Florida wildlife – the alligator. And if you want even more alligator snaps (photos, that is) make sure to take a stroll through the Alligator Park, where you can also see lemurs, zebras, and sloths to name a few.
Blue Springs State Park
Fancy a dip during those hot Florida days? The waters at Blue Springs State Park are a refreshing 72 degrees making it the ideal spot for a swim. But it’s not only tourists who like to take advantage of this natural wonder. It is also the winter home for many manatees looking for warmer temperatures. You can observe these gentle giants and much more wildlife, including ospreys and eagles, on the Spring Run hiking path and Pine Island Trail.
Wekiwa Springs State Park
Just minutes from Downtown Orlando, Wekiwa Springs State Park is a tranquil haven. The azure waters of the Wekiwa Springs, which feed into the Wekiwa River, have been attracting visitors year on year. But it’s certainly not the only draw. Explore miles of trails either on foot, horseback or cycling, pack a picnic and dine in one of the many serene settings, or take advantage of the vast birdwatching opportunities on offer.
Kelly Park and Rock Springs
Rent a tube and float down this free-flowing natural spring in style. Or if you’d rather swim, the springs are a cooling 68 degrees year-round, making it a great spot to escape the Floridian heat. Just be sure to arrive early as the park closes once it reaches capacity. Another popular highlight of this natural wonder is the scenic camping. So, if you fancy a night under the stars, there’s no better place to be.

Leave everyday worries for 50 acres of botanical bliss at Leu Gardens. Explore the beauty and diversity of Central Florida’s expansive plant collection, from the stunning rose garden, home to an array of roses in different forms and colours, to the impressive camellias. Lake Eola is also home to the Walt Disney Amphitheater, which hosts concerts and cultural events throughout the year.
West Orange Trail
Outdoor enthusiasts will be in their element at West Orange Trail. At approximately 22 miles long, this multi-use trail is popular with walkers, runners, cyclists, and skaters. Keep fit while enjoying the diversity of the scenery, passing through a mix of urban and natural landscapes. This scenic, recreational trail connects several communities, from the towns of Killarney and Oakland to the historical and charming Winter Garden. Personally, we love the Butterfly Garden at Tildenville Outpost.
Ocean Florida’s Top Tips for an Orlando Holiday
Ocean Florida’s Top Tips for an Orlando Holiday
Ocean Florida’s Top Tips for an Orlando Holiday
Apply for an ESTA
Applying for your ESTA should be a top priority once you have secured that dream Orlando holiday. Whether submitting for a group or individually, this quick online form allows the entire party to enter anywhere in the US for up to 90 days. To avoid any unnecessary stress, you will want to make sure to do this at least three days prior to travel. But the good news is that once it’s done, your ESTA is valid for two years.
Buy theme park tickets in advance
No one wants to miss out on Orlando’s crowning jewels – the theme parks. So, to make sure you’re not on the wrong side of the gates, buying tickets in advance is definitely recommended. Pre-bought tickets not only guarantee that you will secure a spot, but it is also considerably cheaper to do so. Plus, it means you can also start booking your FastPass+ reservations, allowing you to queue jump your favourite rides.
Book theme park restaurants
If you don’t want to miss your chance to dine in Cinderella Castle or be their guest at the Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant, then booking in advance is a must. Bookings can be made as early as 180 days in advance either online, by phone, or through the app and will provide that extra security that you’ll be seated at some of the most popular dining spots in the parks.
Pack comfortable clothing
Comfortable shoes are a must for any Orlando holiday as you’ll be racking up a fair amount of steps just on the theme parks alone. This also means you will need a lot of lightweight clothing to make sure you don’t get too hot. And even though it’s called the Sunshine State, you will most likely be in for a downpour or two. So, to save money on hiked up prices, you’re best to bring your own waterproofs as well.
Pace yourself
There is so much to see and do on holidays to Orlando that pacing yourself is essential to make the most of your time. We advise you to plan your park days wisely, creating a rough itinerary of which attractions and activities you’re most interested in. Make use of Disney’s FastPass and reservations to limit waiting times and remember to always stay hydrated and eat well. After all, you’ll need as much energy as possible when it comes to the theme parks. Avoid overpacking your schedule and always make room for a little downtime along the way.
Explore more than theme parks
While it’s tempting to get carried away in the thrills and spills of the theme parks, there is so much more of Orlando to be uncovered. Soak up nature in one of the many parks or head to GatorWorld for a face-to-face encounter with Florida’s snappiest star – the alligator. There are also plenty of museums to brush up on a few facts, while the Orlando Science Center is sure to be a hit with both kids and adults alike.
Stock up on insect repellent
Florida’s warm and humid climate isn’t only inviting to us sun-starved Brits, it’s also inviting to several pesky insects, including the peskiest of them all – the mosquito. To stave them off, you will need a good amount of insect repellent on hand, particularly near bodies of water. It’s recommended to apply in the early mornings and the evenings in the hotter months.
Download the My Disney Experience app
One of our biggest tips for your holiday to Orlando is to download the My Disney Experience app. Downloading this app will make managing your plans inside the parks a lot easier. With it, you can make dining reservations, book ‘fast passes’ and check opening hours and showtimes. Another great benefit to the app is that you can also see current wait times and for some attractions even book your spot in the queue so you can enjoy other experiences while you wait.
Be flexible
Being flexible on an Orlando holiday is a must. No one likes a change of plan but sometimes it simply has to happen. Weather, crowds, and unexpected circumstances may disrupt your day. Staying flexible with your itinerary means no change of plan needs to spell disaster and you can still make the most of any circumstance you may face. After all, Orlando has so much to choose from, so you will always find another option.
Bring your own snacks and water
A trip to the theme parks can get expensive, especially when you take a look at the food and drink prices. But did you know Walt Disney World Resort allows you to bring your own food and drinks (non-alcoholic) into the parks? This can be especially useful for any dietary restrictions or to keep the little ones satisfied throughout the day. We also recommend bringing a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated while you’re stuck in those long lines.
Keep some extra luggage space
From extravagant malls to novelty theme park shops, there are far too many options in Orlando to get out your credit card. Plus, with our $20 voucher per person for The Mall at Millenia, a little holiday shopping will be a must. So, to save you from having to spend even more money on another suitcase, we recommend keeping some extra luggage space free.
If you’re chasing the sun, May to August is the ideal time frame for a holiday to Orlando. However, for quieter park times and more comfortable temperatures, mid-November to December is your best bet. If going in Spring, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is always a highlight. But the good news is that there really is no bad time to visit Orlando. With year-round good weather and a calendar of events such as rodeos, art exhibits, and festivals, any time in Orlando is sure to be a joy.
Renting a car is advisable if you want to explore more of Orlando than just the theme parks (and there is definitely much more to see). Having a car also gives you the convenience of holidaying without having to stick to public transport timetables. And with our Fly Drive packages, it can be even easier. With comprehensive insurance, 24-hour roadside assistance, as well as state of the art satnavs at just £6 a day, all that’s left to do is put your pins on the map and hit the open road.
Choosing between an Orlando villa or hotel is no easy task. Villas offer privacy and home comforts at an affordable price while hotels offer convenience and amenities galore, with many situated in the theme parks themselves. Ultimately the choice comes down to your preferred location, budget, and size of group. Whichever option you choose, we can ensure the right accommodation for you with our superb selection of hotels and villas to suit all tastes.
The time difference in Orlando varies due to daylight saving time changes. However, Orlando is typically four to five hours behind the UK. This means once you land in the Sunshine State you can take advantage of that extra bit of time you’ve been given.
Orlando has two main airports for international flights – Orlando International Airport and Orlando Sanford International Airport. Orlando International Airport is generally the preferred choice due to its proximity to the centre and extensive flight options. But while Orlando Sanford International Airport is a little further out, it does offer more budget airline choices which may suit those looking to save a little extra.
Yes, there is plenty of choice when it comes to vegetarian and vegan dining in Orlando. Most menus in the Orlando restaurant scene will have a selection of vegetarian and vegan choices. Even Disney is getting in on the action with their iconic Dole Whip offered in several vegan varieties, including refreshing pineapple flavour. And if you’re on the hunt for full vegan restaurants, we highly recommend Loving Hut and Ethos Vegan Kitchen.
When it comes to theme parks in Orlando, we know it can be costly. But the good news is that there are ways to save money. Firstly, booking well in advance is always advised. You should also consider multi-day passes for better value and look for any special promotions or discounts on offer. Getting a Kids Eat Free card is also a fabulous saving. Any child 11 or younger can get a free meal in more than 125 theme park restaurants by purchasing at least one adult meal at the same time.
