Cultural Activities
St. Petersburg is packed full of cultural activities, so you can see the more sophisticated, intellectual and artistic side of the city. The most famous place to head to is the Salvador Dali Museum, which showcases one of the largest collections of the surrealist artist’s work, second only to his home country, Spain.
There’s also the Great Explorations Children’s Museum in the Historic District. Here kids can learn, play and grow in a great environment for encouraging development. Your kids will have a ball in an array of exhibits that offer and foster practical learning experiences.
St. Petersburg is also graced with a huge street-art presence too, meaning you’re likely to encounter plenty of murals and graffiti plastered across building walls. The street-art community is booming here, so you should certainly take the time to check out the local pieces.
Fort De Soto
During your stay in St. Petersburg, why not dedicate some time to island hop between the isles of Fort De Soto. Made up of five keys, you can see the city’s tropical beauty across 1,136 acres of off-shore bliss.
The area has plenty of beaches to chill out on, as well as kayak rental shops so you can grab a kayak and explore the waters. Also, Fort De Soto is home to beach plants, mangroves, wetlands, and native plants, all of which play a significant role in the preservation and protection of the natural environment.
There’s also a load of great beaches to catch some rays on, including North Beach, which is ranked as Parents Magazine’s most highly acclaimed family beaches. You can’t miss this one, as on it is a large pirate ship playground near the entrance, with a tidal pool inside and loungers to rest up and admire the gorgeous weather and abundant colourful seashells.
Sunken Gardens
Rightfully placed in St. Petersburg’s Historic District since it’s existed over the past 100 years, is the city’s beautiful Sunken Gardens. Home to approximately 50,000 species of the oldest tropical plants in the region. This place is also home to a family of flamingos, that would love to meet you during your Florida getaway. If you’re at one with nature, fancy yourself a horticulturalist, or simply love flamingos, then make sure to stop by St. Petersburg’s Sunken Gardens.
