New Orleans Holiday FAQs
The best month for New Orleans holidays can be determined by your preference of seasonal events and weather conditions.
New Orleans's premier festival, Mardi Gras, begins on the 6th of January each year and ends on the midnight before Ash Wednesday in March, promising vibrant costumes and carnival floats throughout.
Autumn is a great time to visit New Orleans for pleasant temperatures in the mid to low 20Cs.
June to August are the hottest, quietest, months, and cover the hurricane season which runs from June through to November. That being said, severe storms are rare, so if you want to beat the crowds, summer holidays can still be rewarding. Better yet, spring promises relatively low humidity and of course, avoids the hurricane season.
How long is a piece of string? New Orleans is the holiday that keeps on giving. But at a minimum, we would recommend 3-4 days.
This timeframe would allow you to visit New Orleans' three distinct areas: the French Quarter for its historical finds, the Garden District for its Victorian manors, and Bourbon Street for live jazz and bars.
Stay a little longer, and you could venture further to the Louisianna Wetlands or The Old State Capitol, perhaps with a ferry across the Mississippi River along the way.
You can even book one of our popular New Orleans multi centre holidays to explore the best of Southern USA.
Hurricane season in New Orleans starts in June and ends in November each year.
New Orleans is well known for its French Quarter, its oldest neighbourhood. So, if you’re only planning a short trip, staying here can help you experience the most popular attractions.
The French Quarter is nestled next to Jackson Square, the Audubon Aquarium, and the ghost tour French Quarter Phantoms. Better yet, it is considered a walker’s paradise.
However, the popularity of the French Quarter is a double-edged sword – expect busy crowds.
New Orleans is regarded as the most walkable city in the United States, due to its low elevation, compact area of attractions, pedestrian-only blocks, and well-established transportation network.
However, if you need a car for other reasons, such as visiting with a toddler, accessibility issues, or to simply to ensure you can travel as you please, we are proud to offer car hire holiday cover. This add-on includes 24-hour roadside assistance and comprehensive insurance for up to 4 drivers.
