International Drive is developing, and developing fast. After we brought you the news yesterday that the new I-Shops area will be opening this summer, it appears that this fantastic family-friendly destination doesn’t plan on stopping there.

Although you may expect to find the world’s tallest rollercoaster in one of Orlando’s world class theme parks, instead you will see it as the star attraction of International Drive and the new Skyplex entertainment complex - as it has been named.

The Skyscraper coaster will be the first ‘polercoaster’ and will have inside and outside loops, dives, spirals and inversions. Thrill-seekers will be sent spiralling around its structure at speeds of up to 65mph, across 5,200ft of track. Even before you get on the ride, the access via the glass elevator up 55 storeys will certainly get your heart racing.

The $200 million coaster is set to open in 2016 and will be surrounded by a number of restaurants, with more of a focus on fine-dining eateries, as well as a mall and some ‘interactive venues’. Developers are hoping the whole Skyplex evening experience will be comparable to the infamous Ocean Drive of Miami.

And for those who want the views but can’t stomach the ride, there are plans for a restaurant-bar at the tower’s top, as well as a 535ft look-out point so everyone can experience the extraordinary panoramic views across central Florida.

The Skyplex area is expected to help International Drive rival Orlando’s major theme parks and other entertainment complexes. With the new Orlando Eye set to open in 2015 and Skyplex - with the world’s tallest roller-coaster in its armoury - International Drive is moving on to bigger and better things.

We’ve come to expect new rides and developments from the major theme parks but it looks like I-Drive are really upping their game and it’s you who will be benefiting. With so much to do in Orlando already, you’ll need to start looking at a 3 week holiday rather than a 2 week holiday, just to fit it all in!

So if you’re afraid of heights or somewhat of a rollercoaster virgin, then Skyscraper probably won’t be the first coaster youll want to be testing. Having said that, there’s nothing wrong with being thrown in at the deep end! So join those thrill-seekers who rise to the challenge of heart-racing rides across the globe and prepare yourself to test the world’s tallest rollercoaster.
