Universal's Cabana Bay has a long history and is an icon of Universal. For more than ten years, the resort contained three hotels: Portofino Bay, Hard Rock and the Royal Pacific. However, with the opening of Cabana Bay in 2014, hundreds of new rooms, activities and entertainment were added to the mix! Following this, Universal decided everyone loved the resort so much, that they built two new towers boasting even more rooms. To offer the perfect contrast between old and new, the hotel has a vintage feel thanks to its fun, quirky design which is meant to be styled on Floridian resorts in the 1950s and 60s.
Checking in and out of Universal's Cabana Bay is straightforward, with check-in from 4pm and check-out at 11am. As it's a popular hotel, it's wise to get to the front desk earlier rather than later to avoid queues if you're checking in or out the traditional way. Luckily, Universal has a few handy ways to avoid this, including via mobile check-in. If you've reserved a room, you'll get an email which lets you confirm your reservation, add guests and check in early, which means upon arrival you can simply walk over to the 'already checked-in' desk to collect your room key and hotel information. Checking out is just as simple, as you can do it via the in-room TV, phone, email or the express checkout box in the hotel.
Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort is just the spot for groups thanks to its range of room options, which will work for families of differing sizes. There are both standard rooms and family suites - around 2,200 of them! Standard rooms can sleep up to four people, while the suites sleep six and the two-bedroom suites can fit up to eight people, ensuring everyone has plenty of space to relax. Every room is spacious and decorated with the same retro touches as the rest of the hotel, including pops of colour and old-style toiletries, but the amenities are modern, with flat-screen TVs, mini fridges and kitchenettes, plus spacious bathrooms. Each room also has easy access to the hotel's pool or courtyard or fantastic views over nearby attractions such as Volcano Bay.
When it comes to eating, drinking and having fun, you won't be short of options at Universal's Cabana Bay. The restaurant options are virtually endless and cater to even the most discerning of fussy eaters. You can expect everything from a diner, grill restaurant and snack bar, to an onsite milkshake shop, room-service pizza, Starbucks and a lounge for enjoying grown-up drinks.
Our favourite place to stop by is Bayliner Diner, the hotel's food court which serves up burgers, pasta, sandwiches and much more. As for the activities and entertainment, guests are spoiled for choice. For a fun family evening, head to Galaxy Bowl bowling alley to challenge each other to a game or a bite to eat. There's a 10,000s/ft pool complete with sandy beach, plus a separate pool, lazy river, boutique, gym and the Game-O-Rama arcade. It's called Cabana Bay for a reason too - the pool cabanas can seat up to six people, and boast personal TVs and phones, minifridge and safe, so you can hang by the pool all day long.
Staying at Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort means you'll have a whole host of fun extras at your fingertips, including perks like complimentary shuttle buses to and from Universal CityWalk, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Volcano Bay is so close to the property that you only need to follow the hotel path to reach it! You can also arrive with ease via the airport shuttle from Orlando International.
As for the other benefits, you'll get early admission to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter for one whole hour (as long as you have a valid theme park ticket), scheduled transport to both SeaWorld and Aquatica and access to certain pools and amenities at other Universal resorts. On top of all this, your stay will be made easy through your room key, which you can use to pay for everything, and if you buy things in certain Universal stores, you don't need to worry about carrying them around the parks, as they can be delivered straight back to your hotel room.
Unfortunately, Cabana Bay Beach Resort doesn't currently offer complimentary breakfast for guests, but it can be added for a small extra charge, meaning you can enjoy a range of delicious options from Bayliner Diner.
Universal's Cabana Bay is one of the brand's best 3-star resorts, offering two pools, family suites, and a variety of entertainment options.
There is complimentary WiFi provided throughout all rooms, suites and public areas at Cabana Bay Beach Resort.
The nearest theme park to the resort is Volcano Bay Waterpark which resides just 1 mile away.
There are various room categories at Cabana Bay that sleep four, six or eight guests, allowing groups of five plenty of options.
