The long-awaited
Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando Resort is finally open! Transport yourself to a tropical paradise with palm trees, turquoise blue waters and scatterings of Tiki statues. Encounter storytelling like never before as you embark on a thrilling adventure on Waturi Island and experience the epic Krakatau Aqua Coaster.
Volcano Bay is Universal Orlando’s brand new water theme park, built to replace Wet n’ Wild which closed at the end of 2016. This exciting new park promises pure fun in a Polynesian-themed paradise combined with the newest technology.
You’ll find the iconic volcano positioned in the centre of the park, which fortunately, isn’t filled with lava but is home to a colourful, thrilling water rollercoaster. The name of this impressive attraction is Krakatau (you say kra-kuh-tau) and it peaks at 200ft from the ground. You can see the vibrant green and blue waterslides woven into the rock, and the spectacular streams of waterfalls from the nearby onsite hotels.
The epicentre of Krakatau is the exhilarating aqua coaster. The four-person canoes have top-of-the-range mechanisms which pull the canoes uphill then shoots them through the twists and turns within the volcano. Expect to glide through the misty tunnels and zip round open air slides before plunging through a shimmering waterfall. Daring as well as fun, make sure you hold on tight and prepare to get splashed!
Our top tip is to head to this ride first, or to leave it until late in the day as it’s one of the busiest sections of the park. Once you’ve tapped in using your TapuTapu (this piece of wearable technology holds your place in the queue and is your means of paying for refreshments throughout the day), take a stroll through the volcano’s walking path by the wave pool and gaze up at the mighty Krakatau.
