We’re celebrating Adventure throughout July and we’re shining the light on Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. We delve into why we’d choose this hotel for every discerning adventure-seeker and Disney aficionado.

Known as one of the many wonders of the world, the African Safari is probably high up on every intrepid explorer’s list. The vast grassland is home to a menagerie of wildlife, offering a rare opportunity to see animals grazing in their environment. As you probably know, anything can happen in the USA, so believe us when we say you can experience Africa’s Savannah in Florida. Yes, really!

You may be wondering where you’d find such a thing, in the Sunshine State. Walt Disney World, of course. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a hotel like no other.

It’s well known that Disney is one of the best storytellers in history and you can see a sense of magic throughout Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Be prepared to be blown away as you walk into the lobby. Guests are greeted with a grand space with high ceilings, wooden beams and African themed décor.  Expect to see tribal shapes and imagery which transport you to the African Savannah and marvel at the impressive ceiling which combines criss-crosses of wooden beams and a traditional thatched roof. There’s plenty of comfortable seating and little mud fireplaces which welcome guests waiting to check in or wanting to relax with friends and family.

Spoil yourself with views of the animals from your balcony, one of the key selling points of the hotel. See giraffes, zebras plus ostriches and more as they live happily grazing in the 33-acre savannah. The rooms are decorated in a neutral tone which encompasses the overall African Safari theme of the hotel. Guestrooms have been finished with beautiful hand-carved furniture and tapestries from Africa. Designed with families in mind, rooms typically fit four people with bunkbeds or daybeds available and modern luxuries include LCD HDTV and free Wi-Fi.

There are twelve restaurants and bars at the Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge, suiting all tastes and appetites. Bomba is one of the main restaurants, situated under a thatched roof. Serving up family favourites and authentic African cuisines, this buffet style restaurant gets our thumbs up for variety and laid-back atmosphere.

If you want to splash the boat out, Jiko – The Cooking Place is the dining room to visit. The smart-casual dress code reinforces the swanky atmosphere and the menu serves the finest mix of African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine. Think bold, tantalising flavours and fragrant spices in a sophisticated yet family-friendly environment.

As you can imagine, the outside space is just as epic as the inside. The Uzimba Springs pool area has loads of places to explore, from hot tubs to waterslides and a stunning alcove which overlooks the Flamingos in Uzimba Savannah. Surrounding the pool you’ll find leafy, lush foliage and African statues, inspired by wildlife preserves. Similar to that of a natural beach, the 11,000 square foot pool has a zero depth entry point so you want walk straight into the water to cool off. The pool has a bar close by so you can pick up refreshments and snacks throughout the day.
