Day 4 – Rocketman woman: Alexandria Takes One Small Step for Ocean Florida at Kennedy Space Center

Kennedy Space Center – 4 / 5 stars

We were up early to make the 1.5-hour journey to the ‘Space Coast’, and what a wonderful journey it was. Driving over some impressive oversea bridges, we enjoyed the views of the sparkling Florida sunshine as it hit the inviting Atlantic Ocean.

On arrival, our first mission was to hop aboard the Kennedy Space Center bus out to the Apollo-Saturn V Center. Which is home to the iconic vehicle assembly building, and the viewing areas for the main two launch pads. This was a real wow moment, and certainly an out of this world experience, with historic insights into the Apollo missions. Who is not bound to be impressed by the site of the World’s largest Rocket!

For mum and me, the talk with an astronaut was without a doubt, the highlight of our incredible day. We learned so much and felt comfortable to chat with our astronaut throughout. Overall, we found it to be a special, intimate, and personal encounter. Snacks and drinks are also included with the upgraded package, all of which were delicious, whilst adding that extra touch to a wonderful experience.

As we continued our day, we wondered how we could top our chat with the astronaut, and whilst we almost couldn’t, I am pleased to say that The Atlantis Space Shuttle Experience was a very close second.

The short film shown before you see the Atlantis does a great job of sharing the inspirational history, hard work and dedication required, by so many people to create such a revolutionary vehicle. By the time you stare face to face at the Atlantis Shuttle for the first time, well, let’s just say it’s an exceptionally powerful reveal!

Overall, we were uplifted, and exhilarated by our day at Kennedy Space Center - the only downside is that the park closes earlier than others, as we could have spent even longer here. Kennedy Space Center is a real tribute to American progress in both the race to space, and worldwide engineering in general.
